New 600 Contacts SIM Card – The new SIM card included with the i730 and all 3-Digit Series phones will not be compatible with 2-Digit Series phones (ex. i90c).  Customers who upgrade to an i730 from a 2-Digit Series phone will need to transfer their contacts over-the-air using Address Book service or visit a Service and Repair location.

Send / End Keys Reversed – to conform with industry standards, the send key will be on the left and the end key will be on the right.  This change will make it easier for new customers to adjust to using Nextel’s 3-Digit series phones.

Contacts replaces Phonebook – the list of entries will now be referred to as “Contacts”.  The new list works similar to the 2-Digit Series phonebook with the addition of an email field for reference purposes, a second work number, and the ability to search and find a contact name from the menu.

Rear-Ported Speaker – to reduce size, all 3-Digit Series phones will have audio speakers that port audio from the back of the phone.   For optimal use, it is recommended that the phone is held in hand with the user’s palm behind the speaker in order to reflect audio forward for the best audio quality.  For hands-free speakerphone use, the phone will work best when placed face up with the back of the phone on any surface to reflect audio towards the listener.

Direct Connect branding – Nextel’s Direct Connect branding will replace all use of generic walkie-talkie terms such as “Prvt” to provide a consistent customer experience.  These new names include:  Direct Connect In Use, User Busy in Direct Connect, DC / GC Options, One Touch DC, Direct Connect (under My Info). 

One-Touch Direct Connect – this new feature will allow customers to instantly access an assigned Direct Connect contact or the last Direct Connect call from the main idle screen.  This feature will be turned off as the default setting but can be turned on by selecting Main Menu > Settings > DC/GC Options > One Touch DC.

Phone Downloads from iDEN Update – all 3-Digit Series phone users will be able to access the iDEN Update catalog and initiate ring tone downloads directly from their handset with any Nextel Online plan.  To access the Downloads feature select Main Menu > Downloads.

New Accessory Connector Design – a new bottom connector will be included with all 3-Digit Series phones to reduce pin damage and provide more robust accessory connection.  Changes include a new accessory connector cover and 17-pin connector with 5 points of contact for a strong phone-to-accessory connection. 

New SIM Card removal system – for ease of use, i530 users can manually remove and insert compatible SIM cards from the side of the phone by removing the battery door, battery, and sliding the SIM card out using one’s finger.  To insert a compatible SIM card, remove the current SIM card and insert the new SIM card via the side slot adjacent to the PTT button.

Recent Calls List - Access the last twenty sent and received calls for quick call return or storing numbers. 

Time/Date - Current date and time information is available anywhere on Nextel’s Network.

Connector Cover - Protect from dust and moisture with the attached connector cover.

Walkie-Talkie Speaker / Privacy Modes - Use the private speaker button to switch from the high audible speaker to the earpiece for private conversations or to minimize disruptions in quiet environments.

One Touch Direct Connect – Set your phone and instantly connect to the last Direct Connect call or an assigned contact by pressing the PTT button from the main idle screen.

Keypad Lock - Prevent accidental calls by simply pressing menu and * key to lock and unlock the phone keypad

Multiple Languages - Change a setting to read phone menus and options in English, Spanish, and French.

Removable SIM Card – Transfer contacts and services to any 3-Digit Series phone (ex. i205).
